Key Note Address: Mr Al Berman, MBCP, President of DRI International Effective Risk Management and Business Continuity Management : Keys to Success |
|
In a world where the need for integration of disciplines is becoming more and more important, there are two distinct, but inter-related models that are moving to the fore front of planning for and responding to disruptive incidents. The first is ensuring that Risk Management and Business Continuity management are working together. The other is the convergence of private and public sector cooperation.
A holistic risk and effect based model serves a dual purpose of reducing the likelihood and severity of an incident occurring and minimizing the impact of the event. With the multitude of standards, regulations and laws governing each facet of our preparedness and responsiveness, finding a holistic approach that will prove to be most effective in addressing; preparation, testing and execution of plans to minimize the effects of disruptive incidents is our greatest challenge.
Alan Berman is a MBCP (Master Business Continuity Professional), a member of the ASIS technical committee, a member of the Committee of Experts for ANSI-ANAB, a former member of the New York City Partnership for Security and Risk Management and the co-chair for the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation committee to create the new standard for the US Private Sector Preparedness Act (PL 110-53). Over a career that has spanned 25 years he has served as a President and CIO for a major financial institution, National Practice Leader for Operational Resiliency for two global big consulting firms.
